PCDC Hosts Forensics Competition

It is with great excitement that we announce the 2017 Palmetto Digital Forensics Competition.  Participants competing in this capture-the-flag competition will need to solve various digital forensic scenarios.  Points are awarded by correctly analyzing forensic artifacts such as registry configurations, web history and file metadata. 

 

How can I participate?

Complete the “2017 Palmetto Digital Forensics Competition—H.S. Registration” form located at https://goo.gl/forms/ulzZEZj4AkdyRw092.  Once submitted and reviewed by the PDFC Team, you will receive an email with additional information and instructions for how to prepare for the competition.  *Please note that you will need to use (or create) a Gmail account in order to access the Google Forms. 

 

How much does the competition cost?

There is no monetary cost to participate in this competition--just your dedication of time.

 

Are there any prizes?

Prizes will be awarded throughout the competition with an overall prize to the participant with the highest score.

 

Is this a team or individual competition?

This is an individual competition. Individuals competing will not be allowed to receive outside help.

 

Who is eligible to participate?

Any college, business, or organization.  Each entity will be allotted 1 seat on a first come first serve basis until seats are filled. If additional seats are still available, the entity may receive additional seats. This event has a total of 30 seats available.  Seats may open up during the competition and can be filled by a first come, first serve basis. 

 

What prior knowledge do I need?

Knowledge in malware analysis, reverse engineering of software, forensic analysis of operating systems, and data recovery to name a few.  

 

When and where is the event?

The event will take place during the PCDC competition at Trident Technical College on April 8th, 2017.  Competition starts at 8:00 am and finishes at 3:00pm with an award ceremony following.  Trident Technical College is located at 700 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.  The event will be hosted in Building 920.
